Audacity, per i musicisti digitali

Scagli la prima pietra chi non ha mai sognato, almeno per un istante, di fare la rockstar o il musicista. Se poi a questo aggiungiamo anche un po' di passione per GNU/Linux il gioco è fatto.

Di cosa stiamo parlando? Ovviamente della possibilità di fare musica con il PC grazie ad Audacity, uno dei progetti più attivi dell'anno 2007 per la categoria Multimedia su SourceForge.

Come scrivono i suoi autori Audacity è ottimo come strumento di editing audio personale o per piccoli studi di registrazione. Tra le altre cose questa applicazione è ottima per registrare audio dal vivo mediante l'utilizzo di un microfono o de un mixer, oppure per digitalizzare registrazioni analogiche come musicassette e dischi in vinile. Inoltre è possibile registrare su 16 canali per volta, effettuare il dub su tracce esistenti in modo di creare un file audio audio multitraccia e monitorare il livello dei volumi prima e dopo la registrazione.Interessanti anche le funzionalità di gestione dei file audio. E' possibile importare ed esportare files Wav, AIFF, AU e Ogg Vorbis, importare MPEG attraverso l'utilizzo delle libmad, esportare MP£ servendosi della libreria di codifica LAME, creare file Wav e AIFF per masterizzarli su disco e, infine, aprire file audio raw di tutti i formati audio supportati.

Ovviamente non supporta formati del tipoWMA, AAC e tutti gli altri formati proprietari.


Anche a livello di editing Audacity mette a disposizione strumenti molto sofisticati. Si va dall'editing multiplo al mix di un numero illimitato di tracce audio, strumenti per la campionatura e molto altro.


Come dimenticare poi gli effetti che permettono di cambiare il pitch senza alterare il tempo della registrazione, modificare le frequenze con l'equalizzazione, i filtri FFT o modificare i livelli del volume comprimendo, modificando e normalizzando gli effetti. La qualità delle registrazioni è sempre di prim'ordine, anzi Audacity permette la registrazione e l'editing su tracce audio a 16, 24 e 32 bit, con frequenza superiore ai 96 Khz e il mixaggio di tracce con differenti qualità e formati.

Infine dispone di un sofisticato sistema di plugin, che permettono di installare una serie di strumenti aggiuntivi con i quali è possibile intervenire su diversi parametri tra cui il volume, la velocità, l'intonazione, la compressione e la normalizzazione delle tracce audio.
