Chi scopre il mondo Linux rimane favorevolmente colpito dal grande numero di window manager a disposizione dell'ambiente grafico X-Windows. E così si cerca di provarli tutti, finendo per avere sull'hard disk decine di mega occupati.
Vediamo quello che si adatta meglio alle nostre esigenze.

Sawfish
Sawfish è un window manager per X Window System. Precedentemente noto come Sawmill, il nome fu cambiato perché un altro programma aveva lo stesso nome (un programma commerciale di analisi web log).
Distintamente, Sawfish usa un linguaggio Lisp-like scripting, rep, per tutti i suoi codici, il che rende particolarmente facile da estendere. Ad esempio, può includere combinazioni di tasti per XMMS.
Sawfish non arriva con un pannello ed è stato utilizzato con l'ambiente desktop GNOME fino a quando venne sostituito da Metacity in GNOME 2.2
L'ultima versione rilasciata, 1.7.0, è stato rilasciato il 2 ottobre 2010.
